Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival is really a unique and fantastic concept and the event is currently considered to be the world’s biggest singles event. The festival draws around 20,000 love-seeking pilgrims to its swarming taverns and bars. The first weekend of the festival (2nd -5th Sept) was really awesome, full of fun as well as full of love and romance for everyone out there. That weekend the scheduled events consisted of music, dance, and horse racing events. People started having fun at around 12 noon and the dance and craic excitement continued till late night. For those of you who are new to the term Craic, it is an Irish term which means entertainment, fun and joyous conversation. This matchmaking festival is organized by Willie Daly who is a famous horse trader as well as a third generation match maker.
In spite of heavy rain during the first weekend of the festival, it still managed to charm and attract a huge crowd across the globe. The traditional Irish music and dance events made the atmosphere more lively and romantic for the couples. The horse racing event was held during this weekend and it is a special highlight of the Lisdoonvarna festival and visitors usually take back with them some fond memories. Both first time and repeat visitors enjoyed the way the creative decoration of bars and taverns reflect the rich Irish culture.
